How can I tell if my boiler is broken?
If you suspect your boiler may be experiencing an issue, first ask yourself the following questions:
- Smell: Can you smell gas or fumes? This is a significant indicator.
- Pressure: Is your boiler showing high or low pressure instead of a steady constant pressure?
- Noise: Can you hear unusual noises such as banging, whistling, or tapping?
- Gas usage: Is your average gas usage higher than average? This indicates the boiler is not performing or there may even be a gas leak.
- Flame colour: Is the pilot light or flame orange or yellow? This should be blue.
- Leaking, dripping, and discolouring: Is there excess condensation, water leakage, or discolouration around your boiler?
- Temperamental: Do you repeatedly need to relight your pilot light or restart your system?
- Headaches or nausea: Are you experiencing headaches or nausea? Is there any dark sooty staining on or around your boiler? This could indicate carbon monoxide exposure and action needs to be taken immediately.
